Privacy Policy
Last updated:
TheHandyDev is a one-person web design business run by Creig Boyd Jr. in Massachusetts. This page explains, in plain English, what this website does with your information.
- We collect very little. What you type into the contact form, plus basic visit statistics that do not use cookies or store your IP address.
- We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for advertising. There are no ad networks or social-media trackers on this site.
- You are in control. Email creigboydjr@thehandydev.com any time and we will show you, correct or delete what we hold about you.
Who we are
This website, thehandydev.com, is operated by Creig Boyd Jr. (“we”, “us”), doing business as TheHandyDev, in Massachusetts, USA. You can reach us at creigboydjr@thehandydev.com.
This policy covers thehandydev.com only. We also run primefix.vip and creig.primefix.vip; they have their own policies.
What we collect
When you use the contact form. Your name, your email address, your phone number (optional), what you are asking about, and your message, plus anything else you choose to write. If you use the website checklist and press “Send me this list”, your results are placed in the message box for you to read; nothing is sent until you press Send message.
What our server adds when you send a message. The time it was sent, your IP address and your browser details. These appear at the bottom of the notification email that arrives in our mailbox, and help us tell real enquiries from spam. The form also notes how long it took to fill in and has a hidden field that only automated spam programs fill out.
Visit statistics. We measure visits with our own privacy-friendly analytics tool (a program we run ourselves on our own hosting, not a third-party service). For each page view it records:
- the page that was viewed, its title, and the website you came from (the website name only);
- your device type, browser, operating system, screen size and language;
- how long the page was actually in view, and whether you tapped a phone number, email link or outgoing link;
- an approximate location (country, state and town), worked out on our server from your connection and kept only at that level;
- campaign tags, if the link you followed had them.
Your IP address is used for a moment to work out the approximate location and is then discarded; it is not stored. We use no cookies, and nothing is stored on your device for this. A one-way code that changes every day is used so that repeat page views in one day count as one visitor; because it changes daily, no one can be followed from one day to the next. If your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal, we do not count the visit at all.
Our hosting company’s server logs. Like every website, ours is hosted by a company (see “Who we share it with”) whose servers keep standard logs of requests, such as IP address, time and the page requested, for security and troubleshooting. We do not control how long they keep these.
Cookies and your browser’s storage
We do not use cookies. If you use the light/dark switch, your browser remembers your choice in a small setting called “theme” in its local storage. It stays on your device and is never sent to us. You can clear it in your browser settings at any time.
The fonts on this site are served from our own server, so your browser does not contact Google or any other font service when you visit.
How we use your information
- to read and answer your message, and to prepare a quote if you ask for one;
- to send you a one-time automatic email confirming that we received your message (this is not marketing, and we will not add you to a mailing list without asking you first);
- to protect the site and the contact form from spam and abuse;
- to understand, in totals, which pages are useful so we can improve the site;
- to meet legal obligations and to protect our rights.
We do not build advertising profiles and we do not make automated decisions about you.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it for advertising. We share it only with:
- our web hosting and email provider, Namecheap, Inc., whose servers run this website and receive the messages sent to our mailbox (they act for us and have their own privacy policy);
- people or services needed to deliver work you hire us for (for example a domain registrar or payment provider), and only as needed for that work;
- authorities or other parties when the law requires it, or to protect people’s safety or our legal rights.
How long we keep it
- Contact messages and our replies: for as long as they are needed to deal with your enquiry and for our business records. We do not delete them on a fixed schedule. You can ask us to delete yours at any time (see “Your choices and rights”).
- Visit statistics: raw records are deleted automatically after about 13 months.
- Spam protection: to limit how many messages one person can send per hour, the server uses a scrambled, one-way code derived from the connection. It cannot be turned back into your IP address. When the form blocks an obvious bot, our server log notes only part of the address.
- Hosting provider logs: controlled by the provider.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us to tell you what we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it, by emailing creigboydjr@thehandydev.com from the address you used. We will reply within 30 days. To protect you, we may ask you to confirm it is really you.
California residents. You have the right to know what personal information we collect, to ask us to delete or correct it, and not to be treated differently for using these rights. We do not sell or share personal information for advertising.
Visitors from the European Economic Area or the UK. This site is aimed at customers in Massachusetts and nearby, but if the GDPR applies to you, you also have the right to object to or restrict our use of your information and to complain to your data protection authority. We use your information because you asked us to contact you (the contact form) and for our legitimate interests in keeping the site secure and understanding how it is used.
If you prefer not to be counted in our visit statistics, turn on Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control in your browser, or just let us know.
Children
This website is for business owners and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from them. If you think a child has sent us information, email us and we will delete it.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS, our systems are protected by passwords and limited access, and the visit statistics are designed to avoid storing personal details in the first place. No method of sending or storing information is completely secure, so please do not send passwords, payment card numbers or Social Security numbers through the contact form or by email.
Links to other websites
This site links to other websites, such as our own other sites and social profiles. Their privacy practices are their own; please read their policies.
Changes to this policy
If we change how the site handles your information we will update this page and the date at the top.
