Workbench: a free website template for tradespeople

A fast, one-page website for carpenters, landscapers, painters, handymen and other trades. It is built to get a customer to call you or ask for an estimate, and it works on a phone in bright sunlight. Free for your own business or for clients, with no sign-up.

Version 1.0. 142 KB zip. MIT license. No sign-up and no email needed.

The Workbench template: a big headline, a yellow call button, and a drawing of a wall frame standing on a yellow tape measure.

What you get

The whole page

A home page, a thank-you page and a 404 page, all in the same style. Here is the home page from top to bottom.

The whole Workbench page on a computer, from the headline down through services, work, reviews, questions, the quote form and the footer.

Five colors, light and dark

Change one word to switch color. Dark mode follows the visitor’s phone or computer, or you can lock it to light or dark.

The same five colors in dark mode.

Built for phones first

Most customers will find you on a phone. A call bar stays at the bottom of the screen, and the menu still works with JavaScript off.

Set it up in an afternoon

  1. Download and unzip

Open index.html to see the sample site, then open the same files in a text editor.

  2. Swap in your details

Replace the sample business name, phone number, towns, words and photos. The README lists exactly what to search for.

  3. Upload and test

Upload the files to your web host, put your email address in contact.php, and send yourself a test request.

License

Workbench uses the MIT license. In plain English: use it, change it, use it for clients, even share or sell your own version, as long as you keep the copyright line. The two fonts are free under the SIL Open Font License, and their license comes with the files.
